Mid-Air Clash with Scotland Goalkeeper Leaves Forward Stable But Injured

STUTTGART, Germany (AP) — Hungary forward Barnabi Varga is in stable condition in hospital after suffering a fractured cheekbone in a mid-air collision with Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall during a Euro 2024 match.

Varga was stretchered off the pitch in the 25th minute of Hungary’s 2-1 loss to Scotland on Wednesday. He was taken to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery.

The Hungarian Football Federation said in a statement that Varga is expected to make a full recovery. No timetable has been set for his return to action.

Varga has been a key player for Hungary in recent years, scoring 12 goals in 35 appearances for his country. He was expected to play a major role in Hungary’s Euro 2024 campaign.
